Happy Friday! On Monday we had a great trip to the Pioneer School House and learned all about what it would have been like to go to school in Anchorage in 1915. This week we planted our sunflower sprouts and learned about homonyms. On Monday, the 28^th, we will be practicing our citizenship skills and heading outside to pick up trash around the school. Remember, if you have not turned in your permission form, your child cannot attend. So please send those forms in. We are also looking for a couple more parent chaperones for the outing, so if you are free Monday after around 12:30 until about 2:00pm, please think about joining us.

We have two more field trips coming up in May. On Wednesday, the 7^th, we will be heading to the Alaska Native Heritage Center from 9:30am until 1:30pm. We will be taking a bus out there with some of the other primary classrooms. Yesterday, we had a presentation from the Kids Don’t Float program talking about water safety. We will have one more presentation from them on Monday and then on Thursday, May 8^th, we will go to West High swimming pool at 1:45pm to practice our water safety skills. The cost of the field trip will be $4.00 each. We will need both drivers and chaperones for the swimming trip. On the back of the permission form for the swimming trip there is a driver form. If you have already filled one of these forms out this school year, you do not need to fill out another one. Thanks!

The Denali talent show has been scheduled for May 16^th. May 9^th in the fundraising gala at the museum and movie night at school. Our classroom is putting together a Picnic basket for gala. If you have or see anything that you think would be a good addition to a picnic basket, please think about donating it to our basket.

Happy Friday! We have been learning more about seeds and pronouns this week. This Monday is our field trip to the Pioneer School House, we will be leaving school around 12:30 and returning around 3pm. Remember, if you have not turned in your permission form, your child cannot attend. So please send those forms in.

Sparked by our field trip last Friday, we have been talking about trash and recycling and how we can do our part to help. We have decided to team up with Ms. Amanda’s class and do our own trash pick up outside around the school. On Monday, April 28^th, after lunch we will start at Denali and do our best to pick up as much trash as we can. Permission forms are coming home today for this trip. On Saturday, May 3^rd, from 10am to 2pm Denali will also be participating in the Super Sweepers program in connection to the Anchorage City Wide Clean Up. Please consider coming to school either to help us on Monday afternoon or Friday morning. You can find more information about the city wide clean up at http://www.citywidecleanup.org/.

Denali will be doing a talent show in May and permission forms to participate in the show are going home today also. On May 9^th, Denali will be having a fundraising gala at the Museum. As part of the fundraising effort each classroom will be putting together a basket to auction off. The “Theme” of our classroom basket is Picnic. If you have or see anything that you think would be a good addition to a picnic basket, please think about donating it to our basket. Thanks! Sorry for such a long newsletter this week…..

Happy Friday! We had a great week learning about the parts of the seed and homophones. Today was our field trip to the Museum to see the Gyre: The Plastic Ocean exhibit. Next Monday, the 21^st, we will be walking to the Pioneer House to experience a recreation of what school was like in 1915 in Anchorage. We will be leaving the school around 12:30 and coming back around 3:00pm. Permission forms are going home today in homework folders. Thanks! Below is a passage from the peace committee about the fundraiser and upcoming peace concert.

The children are raising money for our sister school in Malawi, Africa.  This is the Malawi Children’s Village.  It is a place for children who were orphaned in Africa.  We have added to the building of a school, latrines so the girls could go to school, books, chairs, and paper.  This year we are raising money to build teacher housing on campus.  If you would like to donate (certainly not required) please send donation in an enveloped marked MCV.

Happy Friday! We had a busy week with SBA testing, but our third graders did great and we got to host some guest students from another classroom. Next Friday, the 11^th, we will be heading to the museum to see the Gyre: The Plastic Ocean exhibit. Permission forms went home in yesterday’s Thursday folders. Please remember that your child cannot attend the field trip without a signed permission form.

The Denali Peace Concert will take place on Tuesday, April 22^nd  this year. There will be musical performances and a dessert auction. All money will go to help the school we have been sponsoring in Malawi. There is a great bulletin board near the lunchroom that details the project.

Field Trip on April 11th

I just got confirmation for our field trip to the Museum on next Friday, the 11^th of April, to see the new Gyre: The Plastic Ocean exhibit! We will be heading out in the morning right after spelling tests (around 10:15) and leave around 12:45. Permission forms will go out in Thursday folders today, please look for them and sign and return them. Sorry for the late notice. There is no cost for this field trip due to Denali’s partnership with the Museum. Thanks and have a great Thursday!
