Happy Friday! We’ve had a busy week in the classroom working on the different parts of a glacier, the different types of glaciers, punctuation, and the parts of a circle. On Thursday, we went to West High School and learned all about the history of Anchorage from some very entertaining puppets. Next Tuesday, March 3^rd, we will be heading to the PAC to see the final National Geographic Live presentation. This one is titled Connect with Anybody, Anywhere and is with Annie Griffiths, a photojournalist. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to chaperone the field trips and has turned in their permission forms!

Homework is coming home today for next week and our spelling tests will be on Thursday, since on Friday there will be no school as it is an in service day for teachers. Skiing for gym has been canceled for the next two weeks, but Mr. Horning assures us that if we get a huge snowstorm, he will resume skiing.  J Next Thursday, the 5^th, will be our spring pictures day. Picture order forms are going home today in homework folders. Denali’s science share will be the week after spring break from March 17^th-19^th.

Our 3^rd graders will be participating in the AMP training, which will replace our SBA testing, at the end of March from the 30^th to April 2^nd. April 3^rd will be a make up day for any absent children.

We’ve had a fun short week here in the classroom. It was great to see your children proudly present their work and reflections during parent teacher conferences. They did great! J

Next week we have our field trip to see Monsters III: The History of Anchorage at West High School. We will be leaving school at 9:15am and returning around 11:30am. The following week on Tuesday, March 3^rd, we will be heading to the PAC to see the final National Geographic Live presentation. We’ve had a great week here in the classroom. We have been busy comparing triangles and playing the detective triangle game, reviewing when to use capital letters in our writing, and multiplying fractions.

Thank you to everyone who has sent in their confirmations for parent teacher conferences and permission forms for our field trip to West High School on the 26^th to see the puppet show about the history of Anchorage. If I haven’t yet received yours yet, another form will come home today. Thanks!

Since next week is such a short week (no school on Monday or Friday and half days on both Wednesday and Thursday), there will be no new spelling words or spelling test. I am sending home a homework log so that you can record your reading and math practice.

We had a great first day of skiing on Tuesday! We will not be skiing next week due to the short week, but we will be skiing on Tuesday, February 24^th, and March 3^rd from 10:45 to 11:45am. Please make sure your child has all their winter gear on those days! Thanks!

We’ve been busy this week, we’ve been working on our math operation skills, reading about all the fascinating facts about Antarctica and glaciers, learning about interjections, subtracting fractions, and writing reflections on our work. Next Friday, the 13^th, we will be having our Valentine’s Day celebration. We have 23 students in our classroom now and a class list is going home today. If your child would like to bring in a small box (tissue and shoe boxes work really well) to decorate and collect valentines in that would be great. J

On February 26^th, we will be going to see a puppet show telling the history of Anchorage in celebration of Anchorage’s Centennial at West High School. This is a free field trip and we will be taking a bus to West. We will leave at 9:15 and return around 11:30. Look for the permission form coming home today. 

There is finally enough snow to do cross-country skiing during gym! We will be skiing on Tuesday, February 10^th, February 24^th, and March 3^rd from 10:45 to 11:45am. Please make sure your child has all their winter gear on those days! Thanks!
