We’ve had a great week
here in the in the classroom. We’ve been learning about and working with
antonyms, practicing our math facts, and we started our exploration of Africa.
On Friday, the 20th, from 10:30-12:45, we will be going to the Apple
Store downtown for a field trip. This will be a walking field trip. Just a
reminder that November, 19th is Denali ‘s literature night from
6:30-8:00pm.
On the Wednesday, November 25th,
at 12:30pm we will be having a Thanksgiving feast in the classroom. Families are welcome and encouraged to join us! The feast
will be potluck style and there will be a sign up sheet outside our classroom.
Families are invited to sign up to bring a main dishes/casseroles, sides,
desserts, rolls/bread, drinks, or utensils. It can be something special
to your family, a dish you always have at Thanksgiving, a cultural dish, or
anything you want to share with us. Before eating, we will gather to share some
of things we are thankful for. It should be a lot of fun and I hope you can
join us!
On Saturday, the
21st, from 4pm-7pm, Denali will be hosting a fundraising even for a
Denali Family. The Seay family’s youngest son, who is just 4 months old, has
been through three major surgeries and is currently in Seattle awaiting a heart
transplant. There will be a spaghetti dinner, a concert by the Modern Savage
(the lead singer is our own Ms. Jenni) and Hannah Yoter, and activities in gym
for the children. You can learn more about the Seay’s journey here: https://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/baby-lincoln-s-journey/326934 or on the Denali Facebook page and buy
tickets for the event here:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/lincolns-heart-spreading-the-love-to-the-seay-family-tickets-19432967529 (tickets will also be available
at the door for $10 per adult and $5 per child.) All the money raised will go
to support the Seay family through this difficult time.
Denali is also doing a canned food drive and
our classroom is collecting canned corn and canned pumpkin. There is also a
flyer coming home today about Denali’s Thanksgiving Turkey Drive. The whole school
will be collecting goods to make a complete thanksgiving dinner for those in
need.
Next week
permission forms will go home for two field trips happening in December. On
Friday, December 4th, from 10am to 11:30, we will be walking to the
Captain Cook Hotel to see the gingerbread house display and learn more about
its construction from the head cook Joe Hickel. Every year, we make our own
gingerbread houses in the classroom, so we will be using this field trip to
inspire and gather ideas for our creations. On Tuesday, December 10th,
from 1:30 to 3:30, we will be going to West High School for a fun swimming
trip. This is a driving field trip, so if you can chaperone and drive for this
trip (and I hope you can), please check in with office and make sure all your
paperwork/copies are up to date in order for you to be able to drive. Thanks! J
