Happy Friday!

I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving weekend. It was great to see everyone who made it out on Wednesday for our Thanksgiving celebration. After our trip to the Apple store, the children were super excited to help out with filming and editing of the imovie showcasing what they were thankful for this year. Thanks to Max, who created a menu for the dvd, a copy of the thankful recording in coming home today for you to enjoy at home.
This week we’ve been working on quadrilaterals, prepositions, and fractions. We’ve got a busy next two weeks before winter break. Next Friday, the 12th, is out field trip to West for the Ebenezer dance performance. Thank you to everyone who has turned in their permission forms and volunteered to drive. If I have not received your child’s permission form, I have sent home another form. Also a reminder since we are using private vehicles, please send your child with their booster seat if they need one. Thanks! The same goes for the following Thursday and our trip to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We have been reading the book aloud and having a lot of fun with the story.
Friday, the 12th, is also Denali’s winter holiday night from 6:30-8:00. The choir will be singing and it should be a lot of fun! On Tuesday, the 16th, we will be making gingerbread houses in the afternoon. We have already started collecting milk cartons and will be looking to collect canned frosting, graham crackers, and assorted candy decorations. On Wednesday, the 17th, from 1:00-2:00, we will be having a holidays around the world celebration. Each classroom in our primary wing, will be focusing on the certain country and holiday. The children will be able to pick from the different rooms and attend two different rooms during the session. Our classroom is doing Norway and the Northern Lights Festival. If you would like to join us for either of these activities, just let me know and we will be happy to put you to work! J

Happy Friday!

11/21/14
Happy Friday! We’ve had a fun and busy week here in the classroom. We’ve been working on adverbs, Europe, and different steps in the writing process. We had a great field trip on Tuesday to see the National Geographic Live presentation. A big thanks to all the parent chaperones who were able to attend with us! Thank you also for all the wonderful food that has come in for the food drive, we had quite the collection of macaroni and cheese and corn to donate!
We have quite a lot of fun activities coming up in the next month. Next Wednesday, November 26th from 12:15 to 1:30, we have our Thanksgiving celebration/feast with Ms. Amanda’s classroom. We hope to see you there! If you haven’t had time to sign up to bring something, there is still time!
In December, we will have three different field trips. On the 5th we are going to see Sussical Jr. at the PAC, on the 12th we are going to see Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol at West High School, and on the 18th we are going to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at APU. A little crazy, but it should be a lot of fun! I am sending home permission forms for all three field trips today. For both Ebenezer and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, there is a second form to sign about riding in personal vehicles and if your child needs a booster seat. In addition if you are able to volunteer to drive for one (or maybe both? J) of these trips, there is another form to fill out and the office is requiring a copy of your driver’s license, insurance, and car registration. These copies can be made at school and once you have filled it out and turned in the paperwork, you are good to drive for the rest of the school year. The times of the shows are listed below and the total cost for all three field trips is fifteen dollars per child. If this causes any financial hardship, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your help with this and making these wonderful opportunities possible for our classroom!
There will not be any homework next week since it is a short week, but I did go ahead and send the homework menu and spelling words for the following week starting on December 1st.

Upcoming Dates:
·      November, 26th, 12:15-1:30: Thanksgiving Celebration/Feast

We’ve been busy here in the classroom. We’ve been working on verbs, the relationships between of angles, polygons, and we started our exploration of Europe. On Wednesday, we had a visitor, Mr. Tom, from Alaska Fish and Game to talk to us about bears and moose and how to safely cohabit the outdoors with them. We learned a lot and got to touch and see some moose and bear skulls and furs.

This is a program brought by the Anchorage Museum and showcases a photographer or filmmaker for National Geographic. For this trip in November, we will get to see Bryan Smith, a filmmaker who takes footage while kayaking. In January, we will go to another one for Kobie Boykins, a NASA engineer who takes photos of Mars. We will be leaving at 9:45 and returning around 12:15.
